Sssk pp 2rinivasan Sampath Kumar:

Born in Kolkata holds a diploma in Textile technology, and is graduate in Commerce and Law from Calcutta University. He has been connected with the Leather industry from 1973. He is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association and is a member in the International council for Jurists, London.

He has represented several trade bodies which are as follows:

President:  Indian Leather Industries Association for 8 years, (1990-97)

Regional Chairman: Council for Leather Exports, Eastern Region, (sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Govt. of India, 1999-03

National Chairman: Council for Leather Exports during 2004-05.

Member: Project Standing Committee, Leather Technology, set up by the Government of India

Chairman: Steering committee for the relocation of the tanneries to the Calcutta Leather Complex (the largest industry relocation project in Asia)

State Level Management Committee: National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

Managing Committee member:  Federation of Indian Exporting Organizations,

Executive Committee Member: Confederation of Indian Industries, Eastern Region

Executive Committee Member: Footwear Design and Development Institute,

Research Council Member: Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Chennai

Co-Chairman: FICCI Leather Panel, Eastern Region

President: National High Schools, Kolkata 2000-2011and presently its Centennial Committee Chairman.

Chairman, Board of Governors: Government College of Engineering & Leather Technology, GOWB.

Kumar also is a keen sportsman and has been the founder President of the eastern region chapter of the Bengal Non-Olympic Association; He is a Life member of the Indian Life Saving Society, Lake Club.

He is a naturalist and a keen photographer and is a member of the Royal Photographic Society, England. He has regularly held photo exhibitions in India and abroad and of special mention is the Photographic exhibition on Raj Bhavan, Kolkata, held at the Victoria Memorial Hall and the Nehru Centre, London.

He has also authored Coffee Table Books on Sundarban and Darjeeling. His debut fiction novel ‘Frozen Waves,’ was launched this year. His other hobbies are writing poetry (in English and Tamil), painting, reading and traveling.  He was recognized by the Malaysian Tamil writers’ Association in 2012 for the services rendered in the promotion of Tamil language.

Kumar is a regular invitee speaker on seminars organized by various national and international bodies which include UNCTAD, WTO and ITC Geneva to address on industry and non-industry topics.

In recognition of his services in strengthening the ties of Italy with India, the Italian Government honored him with the second highest civilian award, the ‘Knighthood of the order of the Star of Italian Solidarity’ in 2006.
